I apologize for the rather long introduction to this review, but that analogy needed to escape from my mind into the free world.Īloysius Vega, my created player doing work in the One in NBA Live 18 Credit: Brian Mazique (NBA Live 18)ĮA has created a smart and promising single-player experience with The One. However, like Rose, NBA Live is attempting to make a comeback, and there are some pieces in place for a resurgence. It has been surpassed in popularity and quality by the NBA 2K series, and a virtual hoops community that once revered it now uses it as a punchline for jokes about inadequate sports video game development. At one time, the franchise was the perennial NBA simulation video game, but ever since 2010 (around the time Rose ascended to prominence), the series has fallen on hard times. Are the glory days over for Rose, or is he primed for a resurgence landing alongside LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers?ĮA Sports' NBA Live franchise might be in a similar situation. He didn't even make Sports Illustrated's Top 100 player lists this month. No NBA general manager offered him a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal. In fact, he's toast in the minds of many. It has been clear going back to even before release that EA aggressively desired getting the game into as many hands as possible to keep hope alive that the series will show growth when it comes to NBA Live 19 and beyond.Rose is no longer the toast of NBA. The arrival of NBA Live 18 to the Vault comes at practically the same point as occurred with NBA Live 15 three years ago, and sooner than NBA Live 16 which was a May addition to the service the following year. There’s also the 10 hour trials with every EA game that begin five days before release and 10% savings on all digital purchases whether it be the actual games or microtransactions within them. For $30 a year or $5 month-to-month, members get unlimited access to the back library of EA games on the console which in addition to NBA Live 18 and Madden NFL 18 now includes all earlier XB1 sports titles plus the likes of Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Skate 3, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Star Wars Battlefront, and many others. EA executives have hinted that may change this year however. Live 19 is now the second EA Sports game from 2017 to have reached the Vault joining Madden NFL 18 as being available in full to all subscribers.ĮA Access is currently exclusive to Xbox One with Sony declining to offer the service on PS4 despite its remarkable value. Recent sales that have taken the price of NBA Live 18 down to $7.50 and even as low now as $4.50 made it obvious that an addition to the EA Access Vault on Xbox One would be happening sooner rather than later.
